GEORGETOWN, Del. — The Sussex County Council has unanimously approved a plan for a facility that would process chicken litter and convert it into energy and other agricultural byproducts.

The council decision followed lengthy delays while the applicant, CleanBay Renewables, addressed issues related to truck traffic to the facility.

The proposed facility will be built on farm land along Route 113 between Georgetown and Millsboro.

Nearby residents had expressed concerns about the proposed plant.

“You can’t tell me that chicken manure doesn’t stink,” Jacob Breasure, a neighbor, said at an earlier hearing.

But the applicant and the county both believe the plant would have significant benefits, including disposal of chicken waste.
